SHOE CLOSET!!!

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Very excited to write about this! This is such an easy, cute and fun project! A SHOE CLOSET!!! Luckily in my apartment I have a "study" and for me I don't really need a home office but I did need a closet for my shoes of course! SO...I think the study (shoe closet) is about 75 square feet...which is perfect!
1st-I painted the walls Pink...the name of the paint is Confetti by Benjamin Moore...which I got for a great price at my local True Value store!
Also, I had originally painted the walls a light blue and did not need any primer...the pink covered the blue just fine!
2nd-I found shelves and brackets at IKEA and estimated I could fit 3 pair of shoes on each shelf. Hanging shelves is very simple...just hold it up estimate where the bracket should go, use screw and drill to hold it in place then put the shelf on and use a level to figure out the right spot for the 2nd bracket! I didn't try to make these all in a row...some of the shelves are together some separate just randomly all over the walls. (Don't stress about perfection...it's boring anyways)
3rd-I found 2 chairs at Salvation Army that were black metal and I just recovered the seats in black and white hounds tooth fabric. (I promise I will post a video on how to recover seats, once I can upload my videos to here!)
4th-I found the table between the chairs at Ross...and the end table for the storage area at IKEA...all of the storage boxes are from Ross...
AND THAT IS ALL!
SHOE CLOSET:
Shelves $2.99/each
Brackets $.99/each
Chairs $5/each
Fabric $6.99/yard
Storage table $7.99
Storage Boxes about $25 total

Funky Bathroom

Monday, June 21, 2010

I had makeup, hair products, perfume, etc. scattered all over between my bathroom, bedroom and closet. So I wanted it all in my bathroom, the place I actually get ready and I wanted it to also be fun.
I found this hutch behind a dumpster, cleaned it and it's the perfect storage area (the white hutch over the toilet). I wanted all my hair products where I could see them all, depending on what I needed for my hair...so I got white shelves at Ikea and drilled them in the wall...one shelf is hair care, the next lotions and the next perfumes...I also added random stuff to them, like picture frames that I like to look at.
I wanted my bathroom to be happy and not boring (like me) because if you think about it, you spend a good amount of time in the bathroom...or at least I do lol...anyways...I was so tired of makeup bags (except when I travel of course) so I bought a piece of aluminum at Lowe's, nailed it to the wall, bought round magnets, glued them to my makeup and shazam...I have a makeup wall :-)
Next I just got a small shelf for the corner, where I keep brushes, combs, curlers, straighteners and magazines!
The Pink paint was free (by asking around for extra paint) I just painted the main wall that the sink is at...oh and the mirror was just brown i just painted polka dots on it and used glitter...I got the mirror at Salvation Army!
This is a very quick, easy and inexpensive way to decorate with what you already have...makeup, hair stuff, lotion, perfume! Instead of trying to hide it all, just decorate with it all!
